Caring for Your Solid Sheesham Furniture

Your FURNECRAFT live-edge furniture is made from solid Sheesham wood — a natural material with its own grain, tone, texture, and character.

With sensible everyday care, you can help protect its appearance and keep the wood looking its best for years to come.

Everyday Cleaning

For routine cleaning:

  • Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth.

  • For light cleaning, use a slightly damp, well-wrung cloth, then dry the surface promptly.

  • Wipe gently in the direction of the grain where practical.

  • Avoid leaving water or cleaning solution sitting on the surface.

Avoid abrasive pads, rough cloths, and harsh household cleaners unless a product has specifically been confirmed as suitable for your furniture's finish.

Deal With Spills Promptly

Accidents happen. What matters is how quickly they're handled.

If liquid is spilled:

  1. Blot or wipe it up promptly with a soft, absorbent cloth.

  2. Avoid rubbing the liquid further across the surface.

  3. Wipe away any remaining moisture gently.

  4. Dry the area with a clean cloth.

Do not allow standing water or other liquids to remain on the wood for extended periods.

Protect From Heat

Avoid placing very hot cookware, serving dishes, or other heated objects directly onto the furniture.

Use coasters, placemats, trivets, or heat-resistant mats where appropriate.

This simple habit can help protect the finish from unnecessary heat marks and surface damage.

Be Mindful of Sunlight

Prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight can affect the appearance and tone of natural wood over time.

Where possible, position your furniture away from continuous intense sunlight or use curtains and blinds during periods of particularly strong exposure.

Natural colour development over time is normal for real wood.

Understand Humidity & Natural Wood Movement

Solid wood naturally responds to its environment.

Changes in temperature and humidity can cause small amounts of expansion and contraction. This is a normal characteristic of natural timber rather than manufactured board.

To help maintain a more stable environment:

  • Avoid placing furniture directly beside intense heat sources.

  • Keep it away from persistently damp areas.

  • Avoid sudden or extreme changes in temperature and humidity where practical.

  • Maintain reasonable ventilation within the room.

Protect the Surface

For everyday use:

  • Use coasters beneath drinks.

  • Use placemats for dining.

  • Use protective pads beneath decorative objects that may scratch.

  • Avoid dragging heavy or sharp objects across the surface.

  • Lift objects when repositioning them rather than sliding them.

For desks, consider appropriate surface protection beneath equipment or accessories that may create repeated friction.

Caring for the Live Edge

The organic live edge is an important part of your furniture's character.

Dust it gently with a soft cloth, paying attention to natural contours and textured areas where dust may collect.

Avoid aggressively scraping, sanding, or attempting to reshape the edge yourself, as this may alter both the finish and natural appearance.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Unless specifically approved for the finish on your furniture, avoid using:

  • Bleach

  • Strong solvents

  • Abrasive cleaners

  • Scouring powders or pads

  • General-purpose chemical sprays

  • Unverified furniture oils, waxes, or polishes

Different wood finishes require different maintenance products. If you're unsure what should be used on your FURNECRAFT piece, contact us before applying a treatment.

Natural Characteristics Are Normal

Solid Sheesham is a natural material, so variations are expected.

Your furniture may display differences in:

  • Grain and figuring

  • Colour and tone

  • Knots and natural markings

  • Texture

  • Live-edge shape

These characteristics are part of genuine solid wood and help make each live-edge piece individual.
